Planning dental treatment in Istanbul usually starts at home: you send teeth photos and X-rays for a free online consultation, receive a personal plan, then travel for treatment. Depending on what you need, a stay can range from 1–2 days for whitening to two trips several months apart for implants.
Why do people plan dental treatment in Istanbul?
Istanbul is a major international city with direct flights from many countries, a wide choice of hotels and a long tradition of welcoming visitors. Many patients like being able to combine dental care with a short stay in the city.
Whatever your reason for travelling, the most important factors are the same as at home: a clear diagnosis, an experienced team, honest communication about what is possible, and a plan for aftercare once you leave. This guide walks you through each step so you can plan with confidence.
Step 1: How does the free online consultation work?
Before you book anything, the dentist needs to understand your situation. At Dent Plus Clinic, the first step is a free online consultation by WhatsApp or email.
What to send
- Teeth photos: we share an 8-step photo guide that shows you which angles to capture, such as a natural smile, front teeth closed, both sides and the upper and lower arches.
- X-rays: a recent panoramic X-ray (OPG) is very helpful. If you have a 3D scan (CBCT), send that too, especially for implants.
- Medical history: health conditions, current medications, allergies and whether you smoke.
- Your goals: what bothers you about your teeth and what you hope to achieve.
What you receive
You receive a personal treatment plan that explains the suggested treatment, how many visits are typically needed and how long you should plan to stay. This plan is preliminary. The final plan always depends on the dentist’s in-person examination, which may show things that photos and old X-rays cannot.
Step 2: How long should I stay in Istanbul for each treatment?
The length of your stay depends mainly on whether lab work or healing time is involved. The table below shows typical ranges; your own plan may differ.
| Treatment | Typical number of trips | Typical stay per trip | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teeth whitening | 1 | 1–2 days | Often combined with a cleaning |
| Composite veneers or bonding | 1 | 1–2 days | Shaped directly on the teeth |
| Porcelain / zirconia veneers or crowns | 1 | About 5–7 days | Includes lab time between visits |
| Root canal treatment | 1 | About 1–3 days | A crown may be added afterwards |
| Single or several dental implants | 2 | About 3–5 days, then 5–7 days | Second trip after about 3–6 months of healing |
| All-on-4 / All-on-6 full arch | 2 | About 5–7 days each | Fixed temporary teeth usually fitted on the first trip |
If you need gum treatment first, or if a tooth needs a root canal before a crown, your plan may add a few days. Read more on our dental implants and cosmetic dentistry pages.
Step 3: How do I prepare for the trip?
- Confirm your plan and dates. Agree on the arrival day and appointment schedule with the clinic before you buy tickets.
- Book flexible travel if possible. Healing and lab work can occasionally need an extra day, so a flexible return ticket is useful.
- Choose accommodation nearby. Our clinic is in Gümüşsuyu, Beyoğlu, close to Taksim Square, so hotels around Taksim make daily visits easy.
- Bring your documents. Passport, list of medications, any recent X-rays and medical reports.
- Consider travel insurance. Check that your policy covers travel for medical treatment.
- Plan light activities. Leave room in your schedule for rest, especially after surgery.
Health tips before you fly
Tell the dentist in advance if you take blood thinners, have diabetes, heart conditions or any recent illness. Do not stop any medication on your own; your dentist and your doctor at home should decide together.
Step 4: What happens during my visits at the clinic?
First appointment
The dentist examines your teeth and gums, takes new X-rays or a 3D scan if needed, and reviews the plan with you. This is the moment to ask questions about materials, alternatives and aftercare. If the examination shows something different from the photos, the plan is adjusted and explained before any treatment starts.
Treatment days
Most procedures are done under local anaesthesia. Between appointments there are often free days while the lab prepares veneers, crowns or bridges. You can rest or enjoy short walks around the city.
Final check before you leave
A last check makes sure your bite feels comfortable and that you understand your aftercare instructions. Many dentists recommend waiting at least a day or two after extractions or implant surgery before flying; your dentist will advise you based on your treatment.
Step 5: What aftercare do I need back home?
Good aftercare is what protects your result over the years. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), regular dental visits and daily cleaning are key to keeping teeth and gums healthy, and this applies to veneers, crowns and implants too.
- Follow your written instructions about food, medication and cleaning.
- Stay in touch on WhatsApp. Send photos if something feels unusual; many questions can be answered remotely.
- See your local dentist for routine check-ups and cleaning, usually every 6–12 months. Keep a copy of your treatment details to share with them.
- Protect your new teeth with a night guard if you grind, and avoid biting very hard objects.
- Plan your second trip early if your treatment involves implants.
When to contact us urgently
Get in touch if you notice heavy bleeding, increasing pain or swelling after the first few days, fever, or a crown, veneer or bridge that feels loose.
How can I make the most of my dental trip?
- Combine treatments wisely. For example, whitening is usually done before veneers or crowns so the colours match.
- Be realistic about timing. Implants need months to heal, so they cannot be completed in one short trip.
- Look at real results. Our gallery shows examples of treatments carried out at the clinic.
- Ask every question. A good plan is one you fully understand before you agree to it.
