Teeth whitening, also known as dental bleaching, is a popular cosmetic dental procedure aimes to brightening and whitening the teeth by removing stains and discoloration. It’s one of the most common cosmetic treatments because it’s simple and non-invasive and we can bleach the teeth in one session with two or three stages of bleaching.

Teeth whitening can be divided into two categories: the professional procedure, which can be performed at the clinic with an authorized dentist, and the over-the-counter teeth whitening, such as whitening toothpaste, strips, and gels, which are available for home use without prescription. However, their effectiveness may vary, and they may not produce the same results as professional treatments.

How Teeth Whitening Works:

At Dent Plus Clinic, Dr-Abdurrahman Öztürk our doctors apply a German brand of high-concentration bleaching agent, usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, directly to the teeth. Blue-led technology is also applied from bleaching devices to complete the procedure. The procedure typically takes about 60 to 90 minutes and can provide immediate results.

Is teeth whitening suitable for you?

Teeth whitening is generally suitable for individuals with healthy teeth and gums who want to remove surface stains caused by factors such as food, beverages (like coffee, tea, and red wine), tobacco use, aging, and certain medications.

It may not be effective for stains that are intrinsic (within the tooth) or caused by factors like tooth decay, enamel defects, or certain medical conditions. In such cases, alternative cosmetic treatments like veneers or dental crowns may be recommended.

What are the side effects of teeth whitening?

Teeth sensitivity: Some people may experience temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation during or after whitening treatment. This usually resolves on its own within a few days.

The Teeth Whitening Results Longevity:

The longevity of teeth whitening results varies depending on individual factors such as oral hygiene habits, diet, and lifestyle choices. Avoiding stain-causing substances and practicing good oral hygiene can help maintain results for longer.
